Change the Windows XP Color Scheme

If you want to give your computer a new look, you can easily change the Windows XP color scheme. Switching schemes will change the color of task and title bars, the start menu, folder sidebars, and other elements.

By default, Windows XP is configured to use the familiar blue color scheme, but there are two other schemes available, "Silver", and "Olive Green".

To change the Windows XP Color Scheme:
  1. Right-click an open area of the desktop and select "Properties" to open the "Display Properties" window.

  2. Click the "Appearance" tab.

  3. In the drop-down list labelled "Color Scheme", select the desired color.

  4. Click "OK" to implement the change and exit the "Display Properties" window.

Windows should now begin using your chosen color scheme. The system might take a minute or so to make the change and your screen display may go black and white for a few moments. This is normal and nothing to worry about.

If you often change the appearance of your computer, you might want to Create a Desktop Shortcut to Display Properties on your desktop.
