Display Volume Control in the Windows XP System Tray

The Volume Control icon may not be displayed by default on Windows XP systems. However, it is simple to configure your system so that the Volume Control icon resides in the system tray for easy access. As the name implies, the Volume Control allows users to adjust volume settings for their computer.

Here's how to display the Volume Control:

Firstly, click "Start" and then "Control Panel". The next steps will depend on what view your Control Panel is displayed in.

If the Control Panel is in Category View:

Click "Sound, Speech and Audio Devices"
Click on "Sound and Audio Devices"
Place a tick in the check-box labelled "Place volume icon in the task bar"
Click 'OK" to exit "Sound and Audio Device Properties" and then close the Control Panel.

If the Control Panel is in Classic View:

Click on "Sound and Audio Devices"
Place a tick in the check-box labelled "Place volume icon in the task bar"
Click 'OK" to exit "Sound and Audio Device Properties" and then close the Control Panel.

The Volume Control icon should now appear in the Windows XP System Tray. Click the icon once and a simple volume control slider will be displayed.

Click the icon twice to open the Master Volume control window.
