Enable The Scientific Calculator

Windows XP comes with a built-in calculator that can be quite handy for performing calculations right on your computer screen. The calculator can be accessed via the "Accessories" section of the "All Programs" menu.

Standard Calculator

In fact, most Windows users are probably already familiar with the standard Windows calculator. However, what you may not know is that you can significantly enhance the calculator's functionality by enabling the "Scientific" view. When in Scientific mode, you can perform calculations using the hex, decimal, binary or octal number systems.

Scientific Calculator

To enable the scientific view:
  1. Open the calculator (Start/All Programs/Accessories/Calculator)

  2. Click "View" and then click "Scientific".
The calculator should expand to show the Scientific view.

To switch back to simple view, return to "View" and click "Standard".

Hint:
To launch the calculator quickly:
  1. Press the Windows Key + R to open the "Run" window.

  2. Type in "calc.exe" (without the quotes).

  3. Press the "Enter" key.
